The River Seine divides the city into two parts.

On the Right Bank (the Rive Droite), there are many businesses and museums, like the stock market and the Louvre. The Left Bank (the Rive Gauche) is home to the more intellectual side of Paris, including the Latin Quarter.

Thirty-eight bridges and three boardwalks cross the Seine

The Seine flows for about 13 km through the centre of the city and 10 of the 20 municipal districts

Located on the western side of Europe near the sea, the city has a fairly temperate climate

The monarchy did not support policies or programs which would benefit the destitute farmers, and instead raised taxes to continue funding their lavish lifestyles
